18/2/2009 AJN.- The Israeli Ambassador to Argentina, Daniel Gazit, today praised an event organized by the Argentine Jewish community to condemn anti-Semitism as "very important and positive."
"This is a positive event, which shows that the community is not afraid of anti-Semites. And I view this as an act of support, a common struggle against the lies about the Jewish people and Israel. I am very happy with the support for Israel," Gazit told the Jewish News Agency (AJN).
The rally, which is scheduled to be held today, at 9 p.m. Argentina time, in the city of Buenos Aires, is aimed at condemning the attacks suffered by the Jewish community after Israel's military operation in Gaza against Hamas targets.
The event has been organized by DAIA (Delegation of Israeli Argentine Associations), AMIA (Argentine Israeli Mutual Association), OSA (Argentine Zionist Association), FACCMA (Argentine Federation of Maccabee Communitary Centers), and other Jewish entities.
In a dialogue with the Jewish News Agency (AJN), the first Vice President of DAIA, Angel Shindel, stressed that this event is "a demonstration" of the Jewish community "in light of the systematic anti-Semitism upsurge in the city of Buenos Aires and in the whole country, which needs to be condemned."
The Vice President of AMIA, Ángel Barman, also told AJN that "these events are a statement of what the community needs to live in Argentina, in peace and tranquility as it always has, and a statement against anti-Semitic manifestations."
